Our Story

Willowsway Stud & rehabilitation, set in the hills of Stainton Nr Kendal is a family-run business with a passion for breeding Traditional Gypsy Cobs &  coloured sport horses and introducing traceable and proven bloodlines. Their love for Traditional Gypsy Cobs was established in 2013 when Hilary brought home "Too Smart" a 14hh blagdon stallion for her daughter Jo, and since then they've never looked back. The Love for coloured horses went much further back than this with Hilary breeding her first coloured horse as a child with her father. Their aim always to breed for quality and temperament. As well as breeding the team are heavily involved in the rehabilitation of injured horses, as well as lessons and events.

Willowsway is owned by Hilary and husband Glyn Waterhouse, but daughter Jo Waterhouse and  Yard Manager Vicki Rudd  are responsible for the day to day running of the yard, along with their fantastic staff team. Since taking the reins in 2016 the Willowsway team have extensively renovated the yard, which is now home to state of the art facilities, with redevelopment plans continuing to apace.

Willowsway has some of the best facilities in Cumbria, and also partners with local professionals including Eugenie Wilcocks of EM Veterinary Physiotherapy and resident Osteopath Niki Mathews.
